Our philosophy

Seit Generationen ein Familienbetrieb der Familie Verdorfer

A story that lives on

Passionate hosts

The Bäcksteinerhof was first mentioned as early as 1277. Over the centuries, a lot has changed here – and yet to this day the farm has remained a place where people live, work, and cultivate hospitality.

Today, the historic ancestral farmstead is run by the Verdorfer family in its 13th generation. For three generations, we’ve also been welcoming guests here.

To us, hospitality means being personally available, staying attentive, and at the same time giving you the freedom you’re looking for on holiday.

The Bäcksteinerhof is intentionally meant to remain a small place: personally run, with time for our guests, and with the aim that you don’t just feel accommodated, but truly welcome.

Preserve the old. Make room for the new.

The history of the Bäcksteinerhof can still be seen in many places today: in old walls, time-grown structures, and special rooms such as the Merano parlour from 1808.

For us, preserving doesn’t mean leaving everything unchanged. We want to carry the farm’s story forward and add new accents where they make sense.

This is how historic building fabric and traditional rooms are intentionally brought together with contemporary architecture, clean lines, and new ideas. This is especially visible in the two lofts in the historic barn and in the romantic fireplace room. Spaces are created that don’t hide where they come from – and still feel completely at home in the present.

From the field to your table

Our philosophy

Apples, grapes, and other fruit grow all around the house, setting the rhythm of our year and belonging to the farm for generations.
That’s how the connection between the farm and breakfast becomes naturally tangible.

For us, farming isn’t a backdrop

but an essential part of our everyday life. Some of what grows in our fields is processed right here on the farm and makes its way to your breakfast table as juice, jam, dried fruit, or fresh fruit.

When you produce food yourself,

you develop a different perspective on quality, origin, and taste. That’s exactly why this standard guides us not only in farming, but also in everything we serve our guests.

For us, clarity makes the difference

A special place

We don’t believe a special stay comes from offering as much as possible.

The Bäcksteinerhof is not meant to be a place that offers a bit of everything. We want to focus on what truly suits us: peace and quiet, personal hospitality, special spaces, good food, and being close to the city without having to give up nature.

That’s why, for us, quality comes before quantity. At breakfast just as much as in the design of our rooms and lofts, and in the way we continue to develop our farm.

We don’t have to be the right place for everyone. We want to be a special place for the right guests. Because it’s precisely this clarity that makes the difference for us.
