Sometimes you don’t need a big mountain hike to enjoy a really beautiful day. This circular walk on the Tschögglberg is one of those routes we especially like to recommend to our guests: easy-going, varied and with a stop for food that is well worth taking a little extra time for.
The starting point is Grüner Baum above Vöran. You can reach it by public transport as well as by car. There is a large car park directly at the starting point
Through Meadows and Forests to Leadner Alm
From Grüner Baum, we first follow the trail towards Leadner Alm. The route climbs gently through forests and across the wide meadows of the Tschögglberg
It takes around 50 minutes to reach Leadner Alm. The mountain hut lies at an altitude of about 1,500 metres, surrounded by larch meadows and forest. The walk there is already part of the experience: not a spectacular mountain tour, but a peaceful hike that gives you time to take in the landscape
From Leadner Alm, the trail continues for just a few minutes to Gasthof Waldbichl.
A Stop at Waldbichl
This is the perfect place to slow down and let time pass a little more leisurely
Gasthof Waldbichl is located right next to our alpine pasture, where our cattle used to spend the summer. At around 1,500 metres above sea level, it lies surrounded by meadows. What we particularly appreciate at Waldbichl is the honest South Tyrolean cuisine, with a strong focus on high-quality, regional and natural ingredients
Our tip: Don’t continue your hike straight after the main course..
Claudia’s homemade cake creations are simply part of the experience for us. Better to order another coffee, enjoy a slice of cake and stay seated for a little while longer
Waldbichl is closed on Thursdays. We recommend checking the current opening hours before setting off.
Back via the Family Reflection Trail
For the return journey, we don’t simply take the same route back
From Waldbichl, the route follows the Hüttenbachweg through forests and meadows down towards Vöran. It then joins the Family Reflection Trail
The artistically designed stations invite you to slow down, walk more mindfully and, from time to time, turn your attention to more than just the landscape. They focus on family, trust, joy, a sense of security and other things for which there is sometimes too little time in everyday life
This gives the return journey a completely different character from the ascent..

Our Tip
Don’t start too early – and don’t make a schedule either. Take a leisurely walk to Leadner Alm, allow plenty of time at Waldbichl for lunch, coffee and homemade cake, and take your time exploring the small stations along the Family Reflection Trail
For us, this isn’t a hike to be ticked off as quickly as possible – but a beautiful day for walking, eating, taking in the views and simply enjoying the moment.
